2nd fork off main road. Go left to mines (right to Frozen Head lookout).
This route can be a leisurely walk along a road, or a rough, cross-country hike.
Shows steepness of hill above road toward ridge.
Open area with relatively few trees.
Crumbling structure along road.
Opening into mine.
View into mine, from opening.
Close-up of crumbling structure.
Road/trail becomes rougher.
The only location in the area I've seen with long-term failure of vegetation to return.
Apparently the trail went more to right (north) and uphill, where I went straight and level.
Back onto the trail/road to west.
Where I decided to switch-back to east-southeast on higher road, rather than continue west.
Another concrete block structure.
Concrete structure to west of major opening.
Closer view. Note rusty metal bar jutting out (to left).
Looking east towards ravine with what seemed to be a major mine opening.
View over Brushy Mountain Prison, Petros and beyond.
Rusty, old cable.
It almost seemed that the trail is supposed to be blocked (or habitat for birds). Needless to say, I turned back and found a different way.
Another view towards Brushy Mountain Prison, along power line cut.
Looking from east towards west along road above opening in ravine.
Concrete structure in ravine.
Another concrete structure in ravine.
Eroded rocks above road near top of ridge.
Trees growing out from rocks.
U or horse-shoe shaped opening between exposed and eroded rocks above road.
| Quote of the moment |
| A chaplain is the minister of the Prince of Peace serving the host of the God of WarMars. As such, he is as incongruous as a musket would be on the altar at Christmas. Why, then, is he there? Because he indirectly subserves the purpose attested by the cannon; because too he lends the sanction of the religion of the meek to that which practically is the abrogation of everything but brute Force. |
